Bhubaneswar: Bharatpur police in Odisha capital have arrested a pharmacist and two of his women associates on charges of murdering his wife by injecting an overdose of anaesthesia to her.

The accused have been identified as Pradmunya Kumar (24), Roji Patra (19) and Ejita Bhuyan (22)

The woman, identified as Subhashree Nayak (26), was brought dead to Capital Hospital here on October 28, following which a case of unnatural death was registered by police. “Her husband initially tried to create an impression that it was a case of suicide. Investigation, however, revealed that it was a pre-planned murder in which the deceased was forcibly administrated anaesthesia leading to her death. We also held discussions with the medical officer who conducted postmortem. After getting credible evidence, we arrested the trio. They are yet to be questioned,” Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said.

He added that they will be brought on remand to ascertain the motive and how the crime was executed.

A police release said Subhashree and Pradmuny were married for about four years. Subhashree, however, had been staying with his mother at Khurda for the last six months following alleged torture by her husband. “Meanwhile, Pradyumna developed friendship with Ejitaat and Roji, who were working in different private hospitals. He persuaded them to help him murder his wife by narrating sobs stories about his marriage. According to their plan, Pradyumna brought his wife Subhashree from her parental house on October 27 afternoon. Roji was given the task of procuring the injections from the hospital where she was working. The following morning, he took Subhashree to the rented house of Roji  near Bijay Lodge at Sampur. The trio then forcibly injected an overdose of anaesthesia Mezolam and KCl. To pass it off as a case of suicide, they then shifted her to Capital Hospital where she was received dead,” the release added.
