Sambalpur: Known for her service and contribution to the society, noted philanthropist, social worker and gynaecologist Dr Narayani Panda has now donated her house at Sambalpur.

After donating money and assets to different educational institutions in Odisha, she has donated her two-storey building spread over eight decimal area at Bhutapada to the government women’s college in Sambalpur.

Panda reportedly handed over the relevant documents of the transfer of property to the college authorities on Wednesday. The house will be used as a hostel for boarders of the college. The building is located close to the college campus.

Speaking about her step, the 85-year-old retired doctor told media that students find it difficult to get a proper accommodation in the area to pursue their studies.

Since the house is located just behind the college, it will be of immense help for the students. “Therefore, I decided to hand it over to the college for the students to stay,” she said.

All formalities have been completed for transfer the property and the documents were handed over to the regional director following the registration process, she said. The first floor of the house can now be used for accommodating students as long as she is alive and thereafter the whole building would be used as hostel.

Noting that she is already ageing, Panda said money and property will be of no use in future if they remain idle. The retired doctor has become a source of inspiration for others by devoting her life for the service of the needy. She served many patients in the past. After retirement from job, she has been active in social service.

She is an active member of various social and educational organisations, health department committee and rotary club. She has been spending all her moveable and immovable assets for the welfare of the people.

Panda had donated Rs 30 lakh to Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur in 2021. The money was utilised for the computer education of the students of the university, where she had studied before getting into medical education.

In recognition of her philanthropic activities, Panda was conferred the prestigious Odisha Citizens Award in Social Service category in 2022. The octogenarian retired doctor has been devoting her time in social service after death of her husband Prasant Mohanty.
