Bhubaneswar: Phulbani shivered at 7 degree Celsius, the lowest temperature recorded in Odisha on Friday night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
With cold wave sweeping the state, the mercury dropped below 12 degree Celsius at 12 places. Daringbadi and Koraput were a close second at 7.5 degree Celsius each, followed by Sundargarh at 9.5 degree Celsius, Titlagarh (9.8), Bhawanipatna (10), Sonepur (10.5), Keonjhar, Angul and Balangir at 11 degree Celsius each, Malkangiri(11.5), and Chandbali (11.6).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13 degree Celsius, against 12.2 and 12 degree Celsius respectively the previous night.

According to IMD, the night temperature in the state will remain 3-4 degree below normal for the next 4 to 5 days.
SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) also predicted that the cold wave conditions would aggravate further between December 19 and 24 due to the combination of the north-westerly wind flow in the lower and upper atmosphere along with clear sky conditions for radiational cooling from the surface of the earth.
