Phulbani: Phulbani Municipality Chairperson, Smitarani Mohanty lost her post on Tuesday, after a no-confidence motion moved against her was passed in a special meeting of the urban local body.
According to sources, 11 out of 13 councillors voted during the motion. While 10 votes were against Mohanty, one vote was disqualified.
The councillors had raised allegations of irregularities and bias in day-to-day functioning of the municipality, and proposed a no-confidence motion against Mohanty before Kandhamal Collector Ashish Ishwar Patil.
Phulbani Sub-Collector presided over the no-confidence motion which was brought against her on Tuesday. Mohanty of BJP had won the Municipality chairperson’s election held on March 30, 2022.
