New Delhi: Congress workers pointed out to Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra that 151 railway stations have been privatised in India.
The Congress leader took to Twitter to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to ‘sell’ and privatise Indian Railways.
“Railways connect India — providing services to 2.5 crore passengers daily and employment to 12 lakh people. Pradhanmantri ji, railway is the property of the country. Do not privatise it. Strengthen it. Don’t sell it,” Rahul had posted along with a video.
Press Information Bureau (PIB), a nodal agency of the Indian government under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, wasted no time in carrying out a fact check and said claims of railway privatisation are absolutely incorrect.
Sharing a screenshot of Rahul’s tweet on privatisation of Indian Railways and trains, the PIB Fact Check Twitter handle said these claims are completely bogus and factless.
The BJP slammed Rahul for spreading fake information.
“Rahul Gandhi is a serial liar and this is not the first time that he has been caught with his lies,” said BJP’s national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
“A tweet is falsely claiming that 151 trains, railway property, stations and hospitals of Indian Railways have been privatised,” PIB tweeted, adding that the Ministry of Railway is not privatising any of its assets.
