Kobe, Japan: The Odisha Government’s efforts at tackling cyclone Fani and admiration for it from the international community found special mention in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora here on Thursday.

Modi, who is attending the G-20 summit here, said the cyclone that hit Odisha’s shores on April 3 was managed with minimum damage and the world applauded how India dealt with it.

“We managed cyclone Fani with minimum damage and the world praised it. It also praised how the government machinery, human resource and space technology came together to minimise the loss of life. All these happened when the country was in the midst of elections. This achievement has inspired us a lot,” he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had praised the Naveen government for the commendable job in evacuating coastal areas on a massive scale to contain the death toll.

He had also conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas after the cyclone had hit the state.
