New Delhi: Amid ongoing hostilities and tension in Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday and reiterated India’s that “terrorism has no place in our world.”
The timing of Modi’s phone call is significant as tensions in the Israel versus Hezbollah and Hamas conflicts escalated. On Monday, Hamas said that an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon killed one of its senior leaders, Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin, along with his wife, son and daughter.
“Spoke to Prime Minister @netanyahu about recent developments in West Asia. Terrorism has no place in our world. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages. India is committed to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability,” PM Modi tweeted.
US President Joe Biden, who believes an all-out war in the Middle East must be avoided at any cost, said he would also speak with the Israeli Prime Minister, who has vowed to finish Iran-backed Hezbollah.
Israel has been carrying out airstrikes in Beirut relentlessly, having already eliminated seven senior officials of Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
Israel has also targeted Houthi rebels in Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah, responding to missile attacks by the rebel group. Four people were killed, and 29 injured in Yemen.
