Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Odisha government’s ambitious Subhadra Yojana fulfilling a major poll promise made by the BJP before the 2024 elections.
The Prime Minister launched the mega Subhadra scheme at a special function held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CMs K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram and other MPs and Ministers were present at the event.
More than 70,000 women are present in the launching program. There excitement knows no bound as they were about to get their first instalment of Rs 5,000 today.
Over 74 lakh women have already registered for the Subhadra Yojana, informed Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
With the inauguration of the scheme, 25 lakh women will receive Rs 5,000 in their bank accounts on Tuesday and more than one crore women across the state will be benefited under the Subhadra scheme.
The women who had registered themselves for the scheme by September 15 will get the first instalment through their bank accounts soon after the launch.
The beneficiaries will receive Rs 10,000 in their bank accounts in two instalments in a year under the scheme. The money will be credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day (March 8).
The beneficiaries will receive Rs 50,000 in five years under Subhadra Yojana, which aims at empowering women and making them self-sufficient.
It is considered the largest, single women-centric scheme and is expected to cover more than one crore women. Under the scheme, all eligible beneficiaries between the ages of 21 and 60 would receive Rs 50,000 for 5 years between 2024-25 to 2028-29.
