Bhubaneswar: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal paid floral tribute to the mortal remains of legendary music director, singer and lyricist Prafulla Kar at his residence at Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Kar breathed his last at his residence due to age-related ailments around 10.30 pm on Sunday. He was 83.
The last rites of the eminent singer and Odia music director will be conducted at Swargadwara in Puri with full state honours. Two ministers of the state government will attend the cremation.
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi also visited his residence and offered her condolences to his family members.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned his death through a tweet and said that he would be remembered for his pioneering contribution to Odia culture and music.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik had also expressed grief over the demise of the musician. “I am saddened to learn of the death of the famous musician Prafulla Kar. His demise marked the end of an era in the world of Odia music. His unique musical style will forever immortalize him in the hearts of the people. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wish them well,” he wrote in a tweet, roughly translated from Odia.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, among others, also condoled his death.
