Berhampur: A POCSO court has sentenced a man to imprisonment for 20 years for rape of a minor girl in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per the case, the convict, Prashant Nahak of Khallikote in the district had allegedly raped the minor girl in 2022. The girl’s parents had lodged a complaint at Khallikote police station.
After registering a case on the basis of the complaint, the police had arrested Prashant. Later, the police filed the chargesheet in the court.
After hearing the case and examining the witnesses and evidence, the POCSO court in Berhampur convicted Prashant and sentenced him to imprisonment for 20 years. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on him.
Besides, the court directed the authorities concerned to pay Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance to the victim’s family.
