Berhampur: A police constable has been arrested for running a spurious liquor manufacturing unit in Ganjam district.
The spurious liquor unit at Langaldei Hanuman Nagar under Dipahandi police station came to light when Bada Bazaar police in the city checked an auto-rickshaw on a tip-off late Friday night. During checking of the vehicle, a large amount of duplicate liquor sealed in bottles of reputed brands was seized.
During interrogation, auto-rickshaw driver Ranoj Das revealed that he was carrying the spurious liquor from the manufacturing unit run by constable Chinimini Barik of the bomb squad of Reserve Police.
Following this, police conducted a raid on the liquor manufacturing unit and seized around 400 bottles of duplicate India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) of reputed brands, a large number of empty bottles, two litre spirit and 60 labels of liquor brands.
Police arrested constable Barik, Ranoj and an employee of the spurious liquor manufacturing unit Babu Sahu on Saturday.
