Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed near VSS Nagar market in Bhubaneswar after a police constable was allegedly thrashed by a BSF official following an altercation over bike parking on Sunday.
Sources said the BSF official, identified as Sangram Biswal, was parking his motorcycle at the market. As the police constable opposed to it and asked him to park it somewhere else, an altercation broke out between the two. A video of the reported scene has also surfaced.
The heated argument between the two led to a scuffle and the BSF official, who reportedly identified himself as a DSP at the spot, beat up the police constable, causing him injuries.
While the constable, identified as Manoj Behera, was rushed to hospital, Biswal was detained for questioning. The BSF official, whose identity card was examined, reportedly tendered an apology before the police for the incident.
A case has been registered at the Saheed Nagar police station in connection with the incident and investigation is underway.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pratik Singh said the constable was deployed near the market for traffic and crowd management as the area witnesses heavy rush. The man misbehaved with the constable and assaulted him after being asked to remove the bike as it blocked the road, he said.
