Cuttack: Police have detected more bank accounts of black magic practitioner Kaifi Khan who was sent to jail in Odisha’s Cuttack after his police remand ended on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said the court had granted 4-day remand of Kaifi Khan to police after his arrest by Managalabag police for allegedly duping people of Rs 1.13 crore. After Kaifi’s remand ended on Saturday, he was sent to Choudwar Jail.

The DCP said the police have detected 15 more bank accounts of the fraudster taking his total accounts including saving and recurrent deposit to 95. Till Friday, 80 bank accounts had been detected.

All the bank accounts having deposit of Rs 29.56 lakh and 5 LIC bonds worth more than Rs 12 lakh have been frozen. The police have seized properties worth Rs 91.82 lakh of the occult practitioner who faces 5 cases in Mangalabag police station and one case in Sadar police station, Mishra said.

The DCP said Kaifi has admitted to the police that his driver Sheikh Israel, who was also arrested, was working as his associates in his dealings. Further investigation is on to ascertain involvement of any other persons in the cheating racket, he added.

It may be noted that the police had arrested Kaifi from Kesharpur on the basis of a complaint lodged by a Ranihat-based woman, accusing him of duping her of Rs 62 lakh. A special police team has been formed to interrogate him.
