Berhampur: Police have recovered 30 mobile phones stolen from the attendants of the patients at MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district and arrested one person in this connection.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, inspector in-charge (IIC) of BN Pur police station Suchitra Parida said the accused, identified as L Siba Reddy of Gokarnapur village under Digapahandi police station, was nabbed while a police team was patrolling inside MKCG campus to check the random theft of motorcycles and mobile phones there.
Siba was loitering below the Paediatric building in the campus under suspicious condition. Police detained Siba and questioned him.
During questioning, Siba confessed that he had been randomly committing theft of mobile phones from the attendants of the patients in the MKCG Hospital, especially when the patients are referred to other hospitals. “As they are in a hurry to leave the hospital with the patients, they do not find time to report the incident to the police,” he said.
Siba also said he had stolen around 30 mobile phones of various brands and concealed those in an abandoned place near MKCG playground to sell latter. He also took the police to the spot where the latter recovered 30 stolen mobile phones in locked, unlocked and switched off conditions of different brands, Parida said.
Police have arrested Siba and registered a case in this regard. The recovered mobile phones would be handed over to the legitimate owners as soon as the verification of ownership is done, said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
