Bhubaneswar: In its drive against traffic violations, the Commissionerate of Police seized as many as 143 vehicles in Bhubaneswar during two nights.
The Commissionerate of Police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, in a press release on Sunday, said personnel of different police stations under the supervision of Additional DCP, Bhubaneswar Suresh Patra carried out a blocking and checking operation on Friday and Saturday night in the capital city.
The operation was conducted as 50 important places in the city to detect violation of traffic rules including drunken driving, using mobile phone while driving and reverse riding. Total 143 vehicles were seized and fine of Rs 89,100 collected during the drive.
Of the total cases, 87 related to drunken driving, 50 reverse riding and 6 for use of mobile phone. Police have recommended to RTO for suspension of the driving licences of the drivers of the seized vehicles and filed cases in the court.
Police stations of KV Nagar, Khandagiri, Jatni, Infocity, Airfield, Nayapalli, Saheednagar, Chandaka, Bharatpur, Badagada, Capital, Airport, Nanadankanan, Mancheswar, Laxmisagar, Tamando, Infovally, Pahala, Balianata, Balipatna, Maitri Vihar and Chandrasekharpur along with Traffic PS-I & II participated in the drive.
During the operation, some drivers took U-turn and drove in reverse direction under the influence of alcohol. But the police teams used spikes to catch those violators and seized 12 four-wheelers and 6 two-wheelers.
Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has appealed to the people to refrain from using mobile phones while driving, driving in reverse direction, and driving under the influence of alcohol to ensure road safety and protect the lives of innocent people.
