Bhubaneswar: Police have seized 20 gram of brown sugar and arrested 4 persons in this connection in Odisha’s Khurda district.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, SDPO Dilip Kumar Das said following a tip-off on brown sugar trade, a team led by IIC Basudev Singh and SI Sasmita Behera of Khurda Industrial Estate police station conducted a raid on the area around Barunei temple on Monday.
During the raid, the police team nabbed the four persons, identified as Chandan Nayak of Gadakhurda Housing Board Colony, Farooq Khan of Mukundaprasad, M Ramesh Reddy of Puri and Manoranjan Pradhan of Jankia. Besides the brown sugar, the police also seized a pistol, two live cartridges from their possession.
The SDPO said five other persons, who were running the drugs trade, managed to escape during the raid. Since the police were on the lookout for them, they did not reveal the arrest of the four persons as it would have alerted the absconding persons, he added.
Sources said the five persons, who escaped from the place, are Lipun Khatei, Prashant, Darama, Baya and Salak. They are professional drug peddlers and had huge amount of brown sugar with them.
