Bhubaneswar: Sea Beach Police in Puri on Saturday served show cause notice on Satyabadi MLA Umakanta Samantaray for violating COVID-19 guidelines.

The police served the notice at the legislator’s official residence. The BJD legislator said he had received the notice and will take necessary steps after consulting his lawyer.

Earlier in the day, Samantaray admitted his mistake for attending the funeral of party MLA Pradeep Maharathy at Swargadwar in Puri despite testing positive for COVID-19.

In a video statement, he said, “Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy’s death came as a shock and I could not control my emotions and reached Puri Swargadwar to attend his funeral on October 4.”
