Bhadrak: Residents ransacked the Kashia Marine police station at Basudevpur in Bhadrak district following a dispute between two villages on Saturday.
Over 200 irate residents destroyed tables, chairs a police van and important papers at the police station. Sources said there was an ongoing dispute between residents of Bibinagar village and Barapokhari village in Bhadrak district, after a girl from Barapokhari married a boy from Bibinagar six months ago.
On Friday, an argument arose between the boy and girl’s households in the two villages after the girl visited her home in Barapokhari to celebrate Holi and returned to her in-law’s house late at night. Other residents of the village, too, got involved in the argument.
On being informed, the police reached the spot and took members of both houses to the police station for a compromise. But on Saturday, yet another scuffle broke out between the two villages after which irate residents of Bibinagar village ransacked the police station alleging that the police did not take any action on the issue.
