Kolkata: Political strategist Prashant Kishor has registered himself as a voter in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. The constituency will see West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contest the bypoll to enter the state Assembly.
Kishor was earlier registered as a voter in his native village in Bihar’s Sasaram district.
It has suddenly come to the fore that Kishor had registered himself in Bhabanipur — which also made him a voter of the Kolkata South Lok Sabha constituency — even before that election. It is learnt that he even voted there in April-May during the Assembly Elections.
It may be recalled that Kishor helped Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress retain power for the third time with a thumping victory in the Assembly polls.
“He made the shift…In view of apprehensions that the BJP might attempt to coerce the Election Commission to get him out of Kolkata amid the Assembly elections,” a source was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“With his camping in Kolkata as campaigner, the BJP could go to the Election Commission to complain and ask how he continues to stay on as polling was spread across several phases even in individual districts,” the source added.
Kishor has provided his “care of” address as that of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee with whom he used to stay during COVID lockdown.
