Koraput: Expectant mothers often have to bear the brunt of non-motorable roads in the interior parts of Odisha as the ambulance fails to reach them on time.
A pregnant woman was carried on a sling for nearly 5 km for the same reason at Bagribeda village under Dashmantpur block in Koraput district on Monday.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Laxmi Muduli complained of labour pain, following which, her family members contacted the ambulance service on 108. Sure enough, the ambulance could not reach the pregnant lady’s house on time.
Left with no other option, the woman’s family members, with the help of an ASHA worker, carried Laxmi on a sling for nearly 5 km to reach the main road, where the ambulance had reached.
Laxmi gave birth to a baby girl in the ambulance itself. Later, she was admitted to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
