Berhampur: Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) on Saturday issued an advisory against fraudsters, who were involved in unauthorised bill collection, by impersonating TPSODL staff.

A TPSODL release stated that the company has filed an FIR against a person in Chirikipada section of Polasara sub-division under Purusottampur division for collecting electricity dues illegally.

The person was going to the customers without any authorisation of TPSODL and using a fake mPOS machine for bill collections. The receipt which he gave to the customers did not have a consumer number and TPSODL logo on it.

The company appealed to the customers to take strict precautions, if they come across such fraud individuals. They can contact TPSODL on its dedicated 24×7 toll free number 1800-345-6797/1912 for redressal of grievances. It advised to use only authorised payment modes for all bills and get a legitimate receipt after each payment.

“We are keeping a close watch on all such activities of fraud. We want our customers to follow authorised-only channels or platforms for bill payments. We would also urge our customers to avoid paying bills without a proper TPSODL receipt and report such matters immediately to our officers,” said Arvind Singh, Chief Executive Officer, TPSODL. The company is a joint venture between Tata Power and Odisha government.
