New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday donated Rs 5 lakh and 100 towards the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya as the Trust set up to oversee the construction launched a nationwide donation drive.
On behalf of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, its co-president, Govind Dev Giriji Maharaj, met President Kovind, news agency ANI reported.
He was accompanied by the VHP working president, Alok Kumar, the temple construction committee chief, Nripendra Mishra, and RSS leader Kulbhushan Ahuja.
“He is the first citizen of the country, so we went to him to initiate this drive. He donated a sum of Rs 5,00,100,” VHP’s Kumar said.
Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties and quasi-political outfits joined the bandwagon, flagging off regional fundraising drives that will continue till February 27.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh towards the fund, ANI reported.
