Kendrapada: Police have arrested the prime accused in a gangrape case almost 4 years after the crime in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
As per the police complaint filed in the rape case, the prime accused, Maheswar Sahu of Kalaspur village under Nikirai police limits in the district was involved in a land dispute with the victim’s husband. In order to threaten the woman’s husband, Sahu along with his wife Jharana Sahu hatched a conspiracy.
As per their plan, Sahu and his accomplices kidnapped the woman and raped her on June 28, 2019. Following the crime, the victim’s husband had filed a complaint at Nikirai police station. He had alleged that 7 persons including Sahu and his wife were involved in committing the crime.
Acting on the complaint, the police had arrested 5 persons while Sahu and his wife were absconding. Later, the court acquitted 4 persons and sentenced one person to jail.
On Sunday, Sahu had come to his village to attend the last rites of his deceased mother. On being informed, a team from Nikirai police station arrested Sahu and forwarded him to SDJM Court. After the court rejected the bail application of Sahu, he was sent to jail at Barimula.
