Bhubaneswar: Private bus service, which was disrupted in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday due to a dispute between owners and employees, became normal after the issue was resolved following the intervention of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Following the direction of the Chief Minister, officials of the district administration held talks with the Private Bus Owners’ Association and the Employees’ Association. The issue was resolved following the talks, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
The private bus operations have now become normal following fruitful talks held by the district administration with the associations of the owners and employees, it said.
The Chief Minister has advised the transport department, the district administration and the associations to keep the interest and convenience of passengers in mind.
The CM’s intervention came after buses went off the road in Koraput district over some conflict between the Private Bus Owners’ Association and the Employees’ Association.
Sources said there was a heated argument between the two sides over bus timing on Friday. Following the development, Private Bus Employees’ Association decided to halt the bus service in protest.
Members of the Employees’ Association wanted the conflict to be resolved soon before resuming the bus service.
As the conflict persisted, bus service was severely disrupted on 40 routes of the district since morning, causing immense inconvenience to commuters.
After getting information about the situation, the CM gave direction to the district administration to take immediate steps and get the issue resolved through talks.
