Bhubaneswar: Distinguished educationist and former professor at Utkal University, Dr Sudhakar Panda has been unanimously elected the president of the Indian Economics Association (IEA).
Dr Panda, a former Professor and Head of the Department of Analytical and Applied Economics, Utkal University, was elected to the post in the 106th Annual National Conference of the IEA held at the KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, IEA sources said on Sunday.
He is also a former Chairman the third State Finance Commission of Odisha government and former Vice Chancellor of Birla Global University, Bhubaneswar.
Prof Panda will succeed Prof Biswsjit Chatterjee, former Professor of Economics in Jadavpur University.
Indian Economics Association organised its 106th National Conference in the KIIT University from December 27 to 29. It is an all India Association for the teachers, scholars, researchers working in the field of economics.
Distinguished economists like former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Monteksingh Ahuliwalia, former UGC Chairman Prof Sukhdeo Thorat, and Prof Raja Chellia and Dr Mahendra Dev of the IGIDR and many other distinguished economists including Prof Sadasiv Mishra from Odisha have been the Presidents of IEA. The tenure is for one year.
Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta is the patron of the Association. Different issues of national and international importance are deliberated in different sessions.
