Public Image Seminar Of Rotary International Held In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Rotary International Director T N Subraniam has said that the organisation had been able to gain credibility due to its successful worldwide polio eradication programme.

Inaugurating the Rotary Public Image Seminar of Rotary International, District 3262 in Bhubaneswar recently, Subramaniam urged members to serve selflessly and to associate with trusted partners.

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik, who was the Chief Speaker on the occasion, observed that Rotary could help reduce social inequity in the country by bridging the last mile gap in delivery of welfare schemes.

Presenting the flagship project called ‘Samman Centers’, Rtn Jayashree Mohanty, IT entrepreneur and first lady Rotary District Governor of Odisha, said that transit shelters for women would be set up at bus stops and railway stations by Rotary clubs of the state.

She also spoke of the tremendous work being taken up in the areas of health, literacy, environment and livelihood generation by RID 3262, including creation of water bodies, filaria eradication, skill development, free cataract surgeries and creation of happy schools.

Rtn Ashok Panda, journalist and editor of the Governor’s Monthly Letter, was the seminar Chair. Delivering the welcome address, he observed that such events would help in connecting Rotary to the world at large and help the organization to bring about change for the better. The seminar was organized by the senior most club of the city, the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar.

Rtn Manik Sharma, President of the Club, was present on the occasion. The inaugural session was anchored by Rtn Purabi Das, District Public Image Chair, freelance journalist and writer.
It was followed by a technical session on service projects taken up by Rotary in partnership with institutions and corporates.

Dr Santosh Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University, Balasore spoke of the social service projects in the district which had helped the institution gain the first place among universities in the state.

Dr Tapan Chand, President Vedanta Limited spoke of the successful CSR projects undertaken by the PSU in collaboration with Rotary. Dr Subhashish Mohanty Joint Director Vector borne diseases; health department spoke of the successful filaria eradication project of the Government of Odisha taken up in 6 districts with the help of the Rotary clubs. Rtn Tanmay Mohanty District Service Projects Chair, gave an extensive presentation on some of the unique and impactful projects taken up the Rotary clubs of the district.

This was followed by a lively discussion between RID Subramaniam and DG Jayashree where the RID spoke about diversity, equity and inclusion and the significant contribution of women in Rotary.

More than 200 Rotarians from Odisha and different parts of the country participated in the day long deliberations.
