Berhampur: In order to ensure security of the people, 80 more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at 26 key locations of Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has already set up CCTV cameras at 29 key locations in the city in the first phase earlier. The 80 CCTV cameras would be installed at 26 more locations with a cost of Rs 1.85 crore to further upgrade the surveillance infrastructure of Berhampur.

A puja for the auspicious occasion was held at sub-registrar office square on Tuesday. It was attended by Berhampur mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda and many corporators of the BeMC.

The mayor said the locations for CCTV surveillance have been selected by Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M. “We had requested the BeMC earlier to instal these CCTV cameras. Police also chose the cameras and strategic locations,” the SP said.
