Puri: The Puri district administration on Monday lifted the restrictions on cremating bodies of those from outside the district at Swargadwar.
Puri Collector Balwant Singh said the decision to withdraw the restrictions was taken after reviewing the declining trend in COVID-19 positive cases in the district, especially in Puri town.
The collector, however, made it clear that all COVID-19 protocols including social distancing, ban on the congregation of more than 20 persons and mandatory use of masks will be strictly implemented during the performance of last rites. Besides, restrictions will continue in cases of people dying of COVID-19.
Singh thanked the people for their cooperation during the last three months to contain the spread of the virus.
Earlier, the district administration had restricted the cremation of bodies from outside the district at Swargadwar till October 31.
