Puri Deities To Be Attired In 200 Kg Gold For Suna Besha Today

Puri: Lord Jagannath and his siblings, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, will be adorned with more than 200 kg of gold ornaments on the occasion of the Suna Besha ritual in Puri on Saturday. Devotees will be allowed darshan from 4 pm.

The deities will be adorned with the gold ornaments on their respective chariots—Nandighosa, Taladhwaja and Debadalana—which are parked at Singhdwar of Jagannath temple.

This year the sibling deities will give darshan in Suna Besha on Garuda Sayana Dwadasi instead of Harisayana Ekadasi.

Lakhs of devotees have arrived in Puri to get a glimpse of the Suna Besha (golden attire) of the sibling deities.

According to the schedule, the devotees can have darshan of the deities in Suna Besha from 4 pm to 11 pm. The Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) may extend the darshan time by observing the crowd on Bada Danda.

The SJTA has taken necessary steps to ensure smooth and timely conduct of the rituals.

Earlier on Saturday, the Mangala Alati ritual was performed from 6 am to 6.30 am on the three chariots. The Mailam and Tadapalagi rituals were held at 7 am.

Besides, Abakasha niti, Gopala Ballava, Sakala Dhupa rituals were held till 12 pm.

Jatrangi Mahasnana and Sarbanga rituals will be held at 1 pm.

After the Madhyanna Dhupa, Mailama, Mekapa Sarbanga rituals, darshan can get darshan.

The servitors will decorate the Lords with gold ornaments and other jewelries, including Sri Hasta (gold hand), Sri Payar (gold feet), Sri Mukuta (big gold crown), Sri Mayur Chandrika (gold peacock feather for Lord Jagannath), Sri Chulapati (an ornament traditionally worn  on the forehead), Sri Kundal (gold earring with a hanging ball), Sri Rahurekha (a half square-shaped gold aura), Sri Mala (necklaces), Sri Chita (third eye of Lords), Sri Chakra (gold wheel), Sri Gada (gold bludgeon), Sri Padma (gold lotus) and Sri Sankha ( a silver conch).

After the Suna Besha ritual, the Adharapana ritual will be held on July 14 and Niladri Bije ritual on July 15.

Notably, the deities arrived at their abode Srimandir following Bahuda Jatra on Friday after completing their nine-day sojourn at Mausi Maa temple.
