Puri: Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain out of bounds for devotees for four hours on Wednesday for the ‘Banakalagi’ rituals of the sibling deities.
According to sources, the temple will remain closed from 4 pm to 8 pm for the rituals, which are held secretly.
‘Banakalagi’ is generally performed by the Dutta Mohapatra Sevakas. Different types of natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, the glue of Kaintha (wood apple) are used to prepare Banaka, which is then smeared on the deities to restore their original look.
After this ritual, ‘Mahasnana’ (Purificatory Bath) is performed. The devotees can then get darshan of the Lords, informed Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.
