Puri: Amid preparation for Deba Snana Purnima rituals, Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri will remain out of bounds for devotees from midnight till 11 am on June 21.
According to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, the 12th-century shrine will remain closed for Senapata lagi ritual of the sibling deities ahead of Snana Purnima on June 22. The temple will be closed soon after Badasinghar bhog ritual around midnight and the devotees will be allowed entry only after 11 am.
As Lord Jagannatha and Lord Balabhadra are quite heavy, a wooden cross is fixed to their backs and thick silken ropes are tied round their heads and waists during this ritual. Daitapati servitor also apply a paste made of Baula Katha on the deities to prevent any damage to the idols during Pahandi Bije (ceremonial procession) to the Snana mandap for the ritualistic bath.
