Bhubaneswar: A total of 180 platoons of police personnel and over 1,000 officers would be deployed in and around Puri for the Rath Yatra on July 1, informed Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal on Monday.
Lakhs of devotees are likely to visit Puri this year on Rath Yatra after a gap of two years.
Police personnel will be sensitised to ensure that ‘darshan’ of the deities is a smooth affair for the devotees, the DGP said.
Bansal said that as the Jagannath Temple in Puri is classified as a Category-A temple, anti-sabotage and metal detector checks were being carried out near the temple and the chariots.
