Puri: A senior servitor of Jagannath Temple in Puri has sought permission of the Supreme Court for euthanasia.
In a petition to the registrar of the apex court, the servitor Narasingha Mishra Pujapanda said his 12-member family survived on the donation given by the devotees. But the plight of his family has become miserable with the apex court asking the servitors not to accept donation from the devotees either in cash or kind.
“Since the survival of my family member is at stake, I have no option left other than to go for euthanasia,” the servitor has mentioned in his petition.
On June 9, the apex court had asked the servitors of the 12th-century shrine not to receive any offerings or donations from the devotees.
