Berhampur: Two fourth-year students of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur have been suspended for two months for ragging one of their juniors on February 9.

Based on the recommendation of the anti-ragging committee, the two students have been suspended from attending classes and from staying in the hostel for two months, said dean-cum-principal of the medical college, Santosh Kumar Mishra.

Similarly, two other fourth-year students have been asked to leave the hostel and not to attend classes for two weeks on charges of allowing ragging activities, he said.

The incident came to light after the first-year student lodged a complaint at the Baidyanathpur police station against the duo, while his father complained in the institute’s anti-ragging cell.

Notably, the victim had sustained injuries on his face and neck after allegedly being thrashed by the accused students.

As per the allegations, the incident took place on February 9 night when the student, a hostel inmate of the medical college, had gone to drop off two of his seniors after band rehearsal. While returning, some other senior students beat him up.
