Bhubaneswar: The alertness of a railway gate man saved the lives of passengers travelling on Bhubaneswar-Anand Vihar Superfast Express from a major accident on Saturday.
According to reports, the 22805 Bhubaneswar-Anand Vihar Superfast Express via Angul was moving at a high speed after leaving Bhubaneswar railway station at about 12.50 pm when a herd of buffaloes strayed on the railway track at the level crossing near VSS Nagar.
Sensing impending danger, the gate man, AK Tripathy, who had seen the train from a distance, ran towards the track and put the red flag on it. Noticing the red flag, the loco pilot stopped the train at a safe distance.
The train later left for its destination after the track was cleared.
Meanwhile, the railway authorities have announced a reward for Tripathy.
