Bhubaneswar: As part of mega rail corridor proposal of the Central government, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC) carried out an aerial survey in Ganjam district.
A three-member technical team of DFCC under Railway Ministry has been engaged to conduct the aerial survey for three days in the district for east coast rail corridor.
According to sources, after the aerial survey, the work of final location survey will be taken up and on its completion, detailed project report will be submitted to Railway Ministry. Following the Ministry’s approval, land acquisition process will start and then laying of train tracks will be taken up.
The east coast freight corridor will pass through 7 districts of Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrk, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam. The 1,115-km corridor will connect Karagpur Junction in West Bengal with Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
The dedicated rail corridor was proposed in 2019 Budget to ensure smooth running of both goods and passenger trains across the country. It is being started on pilot basis in the east coast, the sources said.
The tracks in freight corridor will be independent of those for the passenger trains to increase the speed and uninterrupted movement of both trains.
