In a statement, the Railway Ministry said the extension is applicable only for regular time table trains cancelled by the Railways. In case of ticket cancelled through 139 or through IRCTC website, the time limit for surrendering of such ticket for the above mentioned period across the counters is upto nine months from the date of journey.

It further said many passengers may have deposited the tickets at zonal railways through TDR or through general application after lapse of six months from the date of journey. In such cases, full refund of fare will also be allowed.
