Bhubaneswar: Defending champions Railways will field strong teams in the Senior National Weightlifting Championships (Men & Women) which get underway at Bhubaneswar on March 19.
The Railway men’s team emerged champions in the previous four Nationals, while the Railway women topped in the last two Championships.
Over 1300 athletes, support staff and technical officials from 30 states and union territories will take in the Nationals to be held at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium, KIIT Deemed to be University, in compliance with COVID protocol.
Indian Railways, which provides employment to sportspersons, boasts of star weightlifters like Mirabai Chanu, who did the country proud by winning silver medal in last year’s Tokyo Olympics.
Railways lifters, who have excelled in Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and other international meets, will start as favourites in the Nationals at Bhubaneswar, and will hope to top the standings when the curtain comes down on March 31.
