Nuapada: Fire Service personnel rescued a 24-year-old woman who was swept away while bathing in Udanti river in Gadramal village of Sinapali block here on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was traced three kilometres away from the place she slipped into the swollen river. Her companions raised an alert following which locals informed the Fire Services about the mishap.

She was rushed to Sinapali hospital where the woman regained consciousness after preliminary treatment.

It may be noted, during the last 24 hours, Nuapada received an average rainfall of 96.1mm due to which most of the water bodies and rivers in the district were swollen.

While the district administration sounded an alert to keep away from the rivers and water logged areas, at some places people were seen near the banks for their daily chores.

In another incident, the walls of a rice mill collapsed due to heavy rain in Nabarangpur. While the workers employed at the rice mill survived the mishap, paddy weighing around 3 quintals came under the debris.

The mishap took place when the workers had gone for dinner to a nearby stall, sources said.

Other parts of Odisha also received heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.
