Bhubaneswar: Monsoon withdrawal from Odisha is likely to be delayed due to widespread and heavy rainfall expected in parts of the state and the probability of a fresh cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea between October 14 and October 20.
Usually, the withdrawal process of the monsoon starts in the state by October 10.
The regional Met office has forecast light to moderate rainfall/thundershower activity at many places in coastal districts and at a few places in other districts on Friday. Yellow alert has been sounded for heavy rainfall at some places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada and Puri districts on Sunday while light to moderate rainfall/thundershower is likely to continue till October 10.
There is also a likelihood of formation of a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during week 2 with a low probability of its further intensification and west-northwestwards movement, according to North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Bay of Bengal has seen seven low pressures this monsoon with the last one during Durga Puja festivities in the ‘cyclone month’ of October, triggering heavy rain in the south and coastal Odisha.
