Rain May Lash Khurda, Puri In 3 Hours; Intensity Of Downpour To Increase In Odisha From Today

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning warning for some places in Puri and Khurda till 1.45 pm on Tuesday.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

The weather agency had forecast an increase in intensity of rain in the state from August 22 and issued yellow warning of heavy rainfall for one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam. There is also thunderstorm with lightning warning for some places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balasore, Gajapati and Ganjam. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places in Interior Odisha and at a few places in the coastal belt of the state.

On August 23, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam. The entire may also experience light to moderate rain.

There is heavy rainfall warning for one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar ,Mayurbhanj and Boudh on August 24. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at most places in North Interior Odisha and at many places in remaining parts of the state.

On August 26, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Nayagarh. The IMD has also sounded thunderstorm with lightning warning for one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Angul. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely at many places across the state.

There will be little change in the weather condition in the subsequent two days, the weather agency added.
