Skipper Jiwanjot Singh defied Odisha’s bowlers to be unbeaten on 174 on Wednesday. The opener, who has struck 28 boundaries in his 306-ball knock so far, put on 138 runs for the unbroken fourth-wicket partnership with Swapnil Singh (batting 60).
Suryakant Pradhan and Subham Nayak bagged one wicket each, while No. 3 Kunal Chandela was run out by skipper Subhranshu Senapati.
On the opening day, Odisha were dismissed for 213 in 76 overs. There were a few useful scores, but none of the Odisha batsmen got to 50.
Kartik Biswal made 48 and Biplab Samantray 46, with the duo sharing an 80-run stand for the fourth wicket.
A pair of left-arm spinners — Swapnil Singh and Mayank Mishra – caused Odisha maximum damage, sharing 7 wickets.
