Cuttack: Odisha registered yet another win in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as they thrashed Services by an innings and 31 runs at the DRIEMS ground here on Friday.
Services were bowled out for 238 in the second innings. For Odisha, Rajesh Mohanty and Abhishek Raut scalped three each, while Debabrata Pradhan chipped in with two wickets and Shantanu Mishra took one wicket.
Earlier, Odisha rode on a splendid batting display by Debasish Samantray (195) to post a massive total of 540 runs against Services.
Samantray’s 195 runs came in 403 balls with 23 boundaries and anchored Odisha’s innings with some crucial partnerships. Biplab Samantaray scored 73, Debabrat Pradhan 57 and Suryakant Pradhan chipped in with a quick-fire 64 runs off 28 deliveries.
After winning the toss, Odisha had put Services in to bat first. It was a good toss to win as Odisha wrapped up the opponents for 271 runs. Basant Mohanty was the pick of the bowlers for Odisha as he scalped six wickets. Services skipper Rajat Paliwal was the top scorer with 58 runs in the first innings.
With this win, Odisha has collected seven points for the second time in a row and tops the Elite Group C with 14 points. The home team’s first victory had come against Chhattisgarh when they won by an innings & 3 runs.
