Chandbali: A rare golden turtle weighing 2.5kg was rescued near the Chandbali block of Bhadrak district on Monday.
The turtle was spotted by a farmer, Nirakar Mohanty, in his farmland when he was working in his fields, and brought it home. A huge crowd gathered in front of Nirakar Mohanty’s house to witness the rare turtle.
The Forest Department officials reached the spot and took possession of the rare turtle.
Chandbali Forester Subhas Nayak said the turtle of this species is never seen here, as they are located in freshwater. “After having a discussion with DFO, we will consider whether to release the turtle in Bhitarkanika National Park or anywhere else,” Nayak said.
