Rayagada: The Rayagada district administration on Saturday began investigation into alleged smuggling of tonnes of sand in three wagons of a goods train seized from Bhalumaska railway station at Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada district the previous day.
The sand was reportedly being illegally transported to Laxmipur in Koraput.
According to reports, Kalyansinghpur tehsildar visited Bhalumaska railway station and conducted an inquiry at the spot with the help of police personnel. He also interacted with the railway officials regarding the incident.
Earlier on September 9, the Cuttack district administration had also detained a goods train, in which sand was allegedly being smuggled to Uttar Pradesh, at Nergundi railway station.
