Tehran: Soon after US President Joe Biden said he was discussing possible Israeli strikes on Iranian oil facilities, Iran launched an indirect attack on US stating that any country that aids the Israeli attacks ‘will be deemed an Iranian target.’
The country also warned that a large Israeli strike ‘will lead to attacks on Israeli infrastructure.’
It mentioned this in a statement issued by Iran’s mission at the UN in New York on Thursday. “Should any country render assistance to the aggressor, it shall likewise be deemed an accomplice and a legitimate target. We advise countries to refrain from entangling themselves in the conflict between the Israeli regime and Iran and to distance themselves from the fray,” the statement read.
Earlier in the day, Biden had said he was discussing ‘possible Israeli strikes’ on Iranian oil facilities. He mentioned this when he was asked by reporters at White House if he supported the Israeli strikes.
“We’re discussing that. I think that would be a little… anyway,” said Biden, as quoted by Firstpost.
Israel-Iran war updates
According to sources, Israeli forces launched an attack on central Beirut on Thursday. This reportedly led to at least six deaths and seven injuries.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said around 1.2 million Lebanese had been displaced due to Israeli strikes. This escalation came after Israel’s recent combat losses. Israel lost eight soldiers during an attempted ground incursion into Lebanon against Hezbollah.
The Hezbollah had claimed to have destroyed three Israeli Merkava tanks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had described the conflict as part of a larger struggle against Iran’s ‘Axis of Evil.’
Over the past few day, air raids in Lebanon resulted in at least 46 deaths. Israel’s retaliation came after Iran launched 200 missiles on Tuesday. Most of the missiles were intercepted, reports claimed.
