Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut’s pet project ‘Emergency’ has run into roadblocks. So much so that the release of the much-awaited film looks set to be postponed.
‘Emergency’, in which Kangana essays the role of Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was due to be released in theatres on September 6.
However, trade analyst and respected film critic Taran Adarsh said on Sunday that the release of ‘Emergency’ – based on Indira’s controversial decision to put the country under emergency on June 25, 1975 – has been postponed.
“#BreakingNews… #Emergency postponed… Won’t release on 6 Sept 2024. #ZeeStudios #KanganaRanaut,” Adarsh wrote on X.
Though Zee Studios and Kangana’s production house Manikarnika Films are yet to issue a statement, the postponement of ‘Emergency’ looks inevitable.
It all started after the release of ‘Emergency’ trailer a few days ago when the Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal sent Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) a legal notice urging the film’s release to be halted due to the portrayal of Sikhs.
Several Sikh organisations also reacted to the film’s trailer strongly.
Kangana and members of CBFC have been getting deah threats.
Two days ago, Kangana released a video on social media claiming that her film was yet to be certified by the CBFC.
Besides playing the lead role, Kangana has directed and produced ‘Emergency’, which also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik in key roles.
