Bhopal: Rescue efforts of multiple agencies came to nought as a six-year-old was brought out dead on Sunday from a 70-foot borewell in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, reported PTI.
The child was playing near the open borewell at Manika village, near the MP-UP border, when he fell into it two on Friday afternoon.
According to officials, he got trapped at a depth of around 40 feet inside the borewell.
Teams from the State Disaster Emergency Response Force, National Disaster Response and local administration worked in unison to extricate the boy from the borewell. Oxygen was supplied into the 70-foot-deep borewell, and parallel pits were excavated to access him.
A CCTV camera was lowered into the borewell to monitor the boy’s condition, said Rewa collector Pratibha Pal. Rescuers, however, could not reach him due to some obstruction.
The child was located on Sunday morning after 40 hours of rescue operation, but he was “unresponsive.”
“The boy was located at around 8 am. We made all efforts but could not save the child as the borewell was too narrow,” Pal said.
Once he was finally pulled out, the body was sent for postmortem, she added.
