Angul: In a tragic incident, the headmaster of a primary school breathed his last during a farewell function organised for his retirement in Odisha’s Angul district on Saturday.
The headmaster of Upper Primary School at Balijereng under Angul block of the district, Rabi Narayan Panigrahi, was scheduled to retire from the government service on September 30. Since it was already announced that the school would remain closed on the day for Dussehra, the teachers and students wanted to hold the farewell function for Panigrahi on Saturday.
Accordingly, they made all arrangements for the function on the school premises. They delivered their emotional addresses highlighting the achievements of the headmaster at the meeting. At the end, Panigrahi took the podium to speak to the gathering. But midway of his speech, he collapsed on the stage.
The teachers and students rushed him in an ambulance to the district headquarters hospital in the town. But the doctors declared him brought dead. He had suffered a massive cardiac arrest, they said.
