Puri: The Odisha Police on Saturday revised the security arrangements for Rath Yatra in Puri slated for July 12.
Briefing the media after a review meeting, Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order RK Sharma said 65 platoons of force will be deployed in Puri for which the pilgrim town has been divided into 12 zones of which there will be four zones between Jagannath Temple and Gundicha Temple.
He said that a map for the deployment of the force has been prepared under the supervision of the Puri SP and IG, Central Range.
Sharma also said that there will be security arrangements at the main entry point of the town and on the rooftop of the buildings on either side of Bada Danda (Grand Road).
To monitor the law and order situation during the annual, 31 DSPs and assistant commandants and 64 IICs will be pressed into duty.
Meanwhile, the weekend shutdown restrictions were relaxed in town to allow residents to procure essential commodities ahead of the curfew, along with the Sunday shutdown. The prohibitory orders will remain in force from 8 pm on Sunday till 8 pm on Tuesday (July 13).
It is for the second consecutive year that the mega event is being held without the participation of devotees in view of the COVID pandemic situation.
